Portugal Ahead

The Portuguese Portugal Ahead (Portugal à Frente) was not a political party but rather a pre-election coalition formed for the 2015 Portuguese legislative elections. This coalition primarily consisted of two center-right parties: the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the People's Party (CDS–PP). The coalition was established to support a joint list of candidates for the national parliament and to continue the policies that the two parties had been implementing while in government together since the 2011 elections.

The values and policies of the Portugal Ahead coaliti…  on were largely influenced by the ideologies of its constituent parties, which are rooted in center-right to right-wing political traditions. The coalition aimed to promote fiscal responsibility, economic liberalization, and structural reforms to ensure Portugal's financial stability and growth. This was in the context of Portugal recovering from the severe financial crisis that hit the country in 2011, which led to a bailout by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.

The coalition advocated for continuing austerity measures to reduce the national deficit and public debt, though these measures were controversial and had been met with public protests. They also focused on improving competitiveness through labor market reforms, reducing state intervention in the economy, and encouraging private investment. Social values associated with the coalition tended to lean towards conservatism, reflecting the positions of the PSD and CDS–PP, though economic issues and the recovery from the financial crisis were at the forefront of their campaign.

After the 2015 elections, the coalition did not secure enough seats to maintain a majority in the Assembly of the Republic, Portugal's parliament. This led to a Socialist Party-led government supported by other left-wing parties. Since then, the term "Portugal Ahead" has not been used as a designation for any active political party or coalition, and the political landscape in Portugal has continued to evolve.
